Benchingko Films
Yes, I realize that this is not news. Benchingko Films was pretty much public since July 27 so I do understand that this is quite belated. However, this still does not discount that this is a great idea and it is a refreshing change from the usual anniversary celebrations of corporations and brands.
I appreciate the fact that Bench is not afraid to take risks. They took a risk to change the way pinoy brands were seen. They’ve made Pinoy fashion accessible, affordable, current and internationally competitive. Dati nagpapabili tayo ng Gap sa mga kamag-anak natin sa States. Ngayon baliktad na! Ang mga kamaganak natin sa States ang nakikipabili ng mga Bench products! I digress, the point I was trying to make was that Bench has once again, taken a risk in producing these shorties.
Here are my favorites and my short reviews on them.
Kama
This shorty is delightfully risque! I love the appearance of the horrified sakristan! It’s so whimsical and almost carnal – not just with sex but with other equally passionate emotions such as suppressed fury and fear of rejection.
I almost thought they had collaborated with the Villegas twins for the music.
Horse Power
I liked the simplicity of the film. It’s a nice film and has a wonderful take-away at the end. It also showcases Coco’s acting abilities although I highly doubt na merong jeepney driver na sing guapo ni Coco. It’s a good film but it was safe, if you know what I mean. Although I was half expecting Vice Ganda to make an appearance after Coco’s first line of “Kabayo…”
Borgy Torre’s shots were amazing! I never thought I’d get excited over a jeepney race, after all hindi naman kasi synonymous ang jeep sa concept ng sexy di ba? Pero still, parang na feel kong Fast and the Furious yung pinapanood ko.
Kontrabida 101
Matagal ko nang love si Tita Bella and I absolutely appreciate Bench for doing this film with her in the lead. It’s a very cute faux instructional video on how to be an effective kontrabida. Ang cute ng treatment!
Perya
This was the best one of the lot, in my opinion. The words were haunting, rhythmic and dictated a cadence that almost resembles a heart beat. The cinematography was brilliant! Kaso lang mejo malakas ang influence ng movie na Water for Elephants sa peg kasi bakat na bakat. But still, it is BEAUTIFUL.
And for the life of me, hindi ko talaga kayang makita si Sue Prado na pangit. Kahit na naka prosthetics, Sue’s arresting beauty comes from her heart, her eyes and her enviably dark locks. Sue… I love you but also ahetchu! LOL!
Amazing work Bench! Kudos to the actors, directors, writers, editors and everyone else involved in this project!
