DIY Healthy Water

We’ve been always adamant about the food and drinks that the kids ingest and as much as possible, we want to have the freshest and the closest to natural ingredients in our food and drinks.

When I was in China, I can’t help but eat a lot of fruits and vegetables there because they were just so fresh and sweet! The strawberries that we bought from this old man (he played two, he played…okay, I’ll stop) was possibly the sweetest I have ever had in my entire life!

When we got back here in Manila, we found some strawberries from a supermarket that were about the same size as the ones we had in China but sadly, it was lacking in the sweetness department. The blackberries were the same. But rather than wallowing in the disappointment, I thought I’d encourage the kids to drink more water by making it more fun and healthier. Ideally, I prefer to use coconut water but the problem with that is that it only lasts a day at the most. So, I opted to use mineral or filtered water instead.

Healthy Water Recipe

Ingredients:

1. Fresh fruits – I suggest oranges, kalamansi and dalandan for the pure citrus flavor, watermelons, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, etc. You can experiment with the different fruits available but these are the ones that work for me.

2. Fresh herbs – Rosemary, Mint, Sage, etc

3. Mix and match the fruits with the herbs. I like watermelon and rosemary, Raspberries or blackberries and sage and watermelon and mint.

4. Clean your containers and drop the herbs and fruits. Mush the fruits but not too much that they’re all smushed up like baby food. Best to use a wooden spoon for this. Employ cute little boys to be your helpers.

5. Fill the container with ice cubes until it’s about half full. Fill the container with mineral or purified water.

6. Chill it in the fridge and serve chilled. You can add water to the container if it runs out. If refrigerated, this lasts at least 3 days.

So there! Healthy water and the kids absolutely love it!

You can even go one further by making it into a frozen popsicle! Yum!!
