Paul and Shark Polo Cup

The Enrique Zobel field at the Manila Polo Club was all aplomb with Manila society’s best of the best to celebrate with Paul and Shark and La Confrérie de la Chaine des Rôtisseurs first Polo Cup. I was honored to have been invited to be part of this wondrous event plus I got to live my Pretty Woman moment during the divot stomping!

The über Italian luxury sportswear brand, Paul & Shark, officially launched in the Philippines via a prestigious and very well-attended polo cup held at the Manila Polo Club. Combining the fine and unbeatable elements of the luxe Paul & Shark lifestyle, the fine game of kings, splendid company and gourmand offerings, the Paul & Shark Polo Cup 2014 had all the trappings of a successful, albeit engaging, launch.

The Paul & Shark Polo Cup 2014, presented by Paul & Shark and La Chaine des Rotisseurs, drew a 400-strong polo- and Paul & Shark-loving crowd. The festive and “nautical-themed” afternoon was hosted by the charming Marc Nelson while the tasteful and sophisticated entertainment, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all, was provided by the MSE Music Ensemble and of course the goose bump-inducing numbers performed by singer, Pinky Marquez were a treat to one’s ears.

The Low-Goal match (a round robin match comprising the Red, Grey and Yellow teams) elevated the levels of excitement and merriment of the well-turned out and nautically-dressed guests (who became a bright and colourful sea of maritime-inspired blues, reds and white). It was the Red Team, however, at the end of the match (2 chukkers per team), who took home the gold that afternoon.

Post Low-Goal match, the tradition of the Parade of Colours and the Ceremonial Throw-In saw the MPC President, Violeta Gallego-Kramer; the CEO of Brand Gateway, Inc., Gabriele Boschi and his wife, Julie; La Chaine des Rotisseurs’ Michel and Amparito Lhuillier; and His Excellency, Ambassador Massimo Roscigno of Italy to the Philippines, officially kick-start the highly-anticipated High-Goal match.

A riveting fast-paced High-Goal match pit the Black team against the White team, which kept the crowd cheering for more action on the field and it was finally the White team that came away the victor with an impressive seven goals. It was at half time, however, whereby the tradition of “Divot Stomping,” led by the gorgeous Paul & Shark models, that had everyone make their way down to the field to relish not only the soothing sounds of MSE but free-flowing bubbly.

Much to the guests’ delight, a raffle was held wherein six lucky winners went home with gorgeous Paul & Shark bags that doubled as both a sling and duffel bag (perfect for beach getaways). The lucky winners were Amparito Lhuillier, Charles Lhuillier, David Ackerman, Pacholo Garcia-Morera, Vault magazine’s Barry Cyrus Viloria, and Leung de Leon Marketing Theresa Leung.

Once again, the MPC President, Violeta Gallego-Kramer, the CEO of Brand Gateway, Inc., Gabriele Boschi and his wife, Julie, La Chaine des Rotisseurs’ Michel and Amparito Lhuillier, and His Excellency, Ambassador Massimo Roscigno came together to congratulate as well as to preside over the awarding of the trophies to the victorious Red and White teams.

Pinky Marquez took to centre stage once again, backed by the MSE, to sing Conti Partiro and Somewhere just before an impressive parade of roasts descended on the field where the guests congregated to enjoy good food, good company, good music and to push the proverbial boat out in celebration of the official launch of the Paul & Shark brand.
